This 39-mile route takes travelers approximately one hour to drive through Badlands National Park.  The area is enclosed with dramatic rock formations, carved out cliffs and color-patterned buttes. The road is a state scenic byway on Highway 240 and offers nearly 30 scenic overlooks and stops. Visitors can also hike along several trails for a closer look at the canyons and sunset views.  While visiting this scenic route you can see a variety of wildlife to include pronghorm antelope, mule deer, prairie dogs and numerous birds.  Buffalo can also be found off the western end of the Badlands Loop Road along Sage Creek Rim Road.  Although the scenic route will take about one hour to drive, allow for additional time to visit the Ben Reifle Visitor Center, photo stops, hiking and walking trails and more.

Most visitors will get to the park in one of three ways:

• Traveling west on I-90 take Exit 131, follow signs approximately 3 miles to the Northeast entrance of Badlands National Park
• Traveling east on I-90 take Exit 110 at Wall, follow signs approximately 7 miles to the Pinnacles Entrance of Badlands National Park
• Take the back way into Badlands National Park from Rapid City, SD on Hwy 44. Hwy 44 meets up with SD Hwy 377 in the town of Interior and from there follow Hwy 377 two miles to the Park’s Interior Entrance
