Experience our History: In Historic Deadwood, the entire town is on the National Historic Registry. To walk in the footsteps of legends, book the Deadwood PastPort which includes admission to the Broken Boot Gold Mine, Historic Adams House, the Days of 76 Museum and Mt Moriah Cemetery. Daily re-enactments on main Street are followed by the Trial of Jack McCall (every day except Sunday). Tour one of Deadwood’s houses of prostitution, an industry that operated illegally in the city from 1876 until 1980, when a raid by federal agents finally closed them for good.

Ride the Deadwood Stage: The Deadwood Stage is an Old West icon and still travels the streets of Historic Mainstreet Late May through late September.  The stage was featured for years by Buffalo Bill and his Wild West show all over America and Europe.  It was used in Deadwood to carry mail, gold and people from 1876 until the arrival of the railroad to Deadwood in December 1890. Today, visitors can ride a replica of the Deadwood to Cheyenne Stage from mid- April through late fall.

Jump on our one-hour tour of Deadwood: In Deadwood, take one of the best short tours in the region on a motor coach through the history of Deadwood’s Main Street, the historic homes in Deadwood’s “Nob Hill” and Mt. Explore our Scenic By-ways and Monuments: Deadwood is located 12 miles from Spearfish Canyon National Scenic by-way and only 73 miles from Devils Tower National Monument. This scenic road trip loops past waterfalls in Spearfish Canyon to Devils Tower via Sundance, Wyoming and back through Belle Fourche and Spearfish. Take a Hike or a walk: Mt Roosevelt Friendship Tower, located 2.5 miles from downtown Deadwood offers a short hike and long views.  The tower was created in memory of Teddy Roosevelt by Deadwood’s first Sherriff, Seth Bullock. The Homestake Trail connects Deadwood and Lead and is a great way to see some of the mining and railroad history of the area. The trail is 3 ½ miles one way.  The Mickelson Trailhead is located in Deadwood and is a fun and easy route between Lead and Deadwood along the historic Burlington Northern Route.  Take it easy with a walking tour of Deadwood’s historic sites.  Pick up a guide at the Deadwood Visitor Center.

Take a one-hour tour of Lead, home of the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center: This one-hour tour takes visitors through historic Lead and a surface tour of Sanford Lab once home to the Homestake Gold Mine. In the Yates hoist room, you’ll see hoists that have been in operation since 1939 and learn about the more-than 5,000 feet of rope that take personnel to the underground. If you’re lucky, you may even see the hoists in action! You’ll also learn a little bit about the mining process and the state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Plant designed by Homestake Mining Company and still used today by Sanford Lab and other companies around the world. Tour Historic Lead

Both the Lead Country Club and Tomahawk Lake Golf Courses rewards players for staying in the fairway and punishes those who wander off course into tall, dense, rough, towering pine trees and a winding creek. These scenic, 9-hole golf courses are within the Black Hills National Forest. Boulder Canyon Country Club, now an 18-hole layout and voted “Best of the Northern Hills,” is located between Deadwood and Sturgis.  And, located on the historic Frawley Ranch just a few miles from Deadwood, Elkhorn Ridge is a modern 18-hole championship course that features rock wall backdrops and mountain views.
