TRAIL RIDES:
Palmer Gulch Stables is the only barn of this kind to hold a riding permit in the NORBECK WILDLIFE PRESERVE. The most beautiful trails in the Black Hills National Forest are found in this wildlife sanctuary! We offer riding tours of the Custer Trail, the Deadwood Trail, and the Keystone Trail every day! Choose the trail that most interests you! THE BARN IS OPEN… Come On In!
Come see how much the horses and wranglers lover their jobs! Everyone is invited to visit the barn, talk to the guides, watch the horsemanship demonstrations, or just hang around with the horses.
The barn is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, eight am to four pm, seven days a week, guided trail rides make tracks from the stables. Rides depart throughout the day.

CHUCK WAGON DINNER SHOW
A leisurely (30 min) horse drawn covered wagon ride. Check in time for the wagon train is at 4:30 p.m.at the stables and departure is at 5:00 p.m. MT. Horseback riders meet at the stables at 4:00 pm for orientation, leave by 4:15 for an hour long ride to the show. both travel into the Black Hills National Forest to a picturesque chuck wagon camp where guests are greeted by the entertainers, cooks and a beautiful view of Black Elk Peak. Our wagon drivers are very experienced teamsters with years of Draft Horse knowledge.|
A fantastic STEAK dinner grilled to order, over an Aspen wood fire by Clayton and Rhonda Sanders (Campfire Catering) a local couple who specialize in Dutch Oven/Chuck Wagon Cooking. |
*Dinner Menu:
Steak- Locally grown ball tip sirloin beef steak, hot dogs available for the kids if they desire.
Sides- Clayton’s secret recipe slow cooked baked beans. Dutch oven sides include fresh sliced fire-fried potatoes with bacon, onion, bell peppers and seasonings.
Dessert- Dutch-Oven peach or pear cobbler
Beverages- Boiled coffee, ice tea, or lemonade

Wagons return to the Lodge around 7:30 p.m. MT and Horse Back riders return via a tractor hay ride to the stables at 7:30 p.m. MT|

Wagons depart from the stables promptly at 8:00 AM returning to the stables at approximately 9:30AM
Join us for a special early morning BREAKFAST cookout. Participants will load up on an authentic horse drawn covered wagon for an enjoyable ride into the beautiful National Forest; arriving at our Chuck Wagon camp nestled in a remote mountain meadow just in time to watch Dutch oven cooks prepare a memorable and hearty breakfast over a wood fire.
The menu consists of our delicious Bronc Buster hash…. Bacon and beef, chopped potatoes, onions, peppers and secret seasonings browned and cooked to perfection over the fire in a cast iron pot. For the sweet tooth, another pot contains a warm apple pie oatmeal dish. Tart apples sliced and mixed with cinnamon and brown sugar, nutmeg, butter and maple syrup, rolled in oatmeal and lightly browned. This is true comfort food. Enjoy good coffee? How about a rich cup of boiled cowboy coffee. Orange juice is also served. This breakfast is only offered 12 times a summer so plan one memorable breakfast with us.
